Story of Ongaro & Fuga

The Ongaro and Fuga company was founded in 1954 by Franco Fuga and is presently run by his sons Giuliano and Francesco.

We can testity Ongaro & Fuga is indeed one of the few Murano glass companies that has kept the tradition of the refined Muranese art alive, in particular the Venetian glass mirror.

This is achieved by employing the same techniques and materials used in bygone days.

Thanks to the immense experience accumulated over the years by the founder Franco Fuga, whom still works as a Murano glass consultant; the company is able to transmit emotions that industrial products cannot.

Ongaro & Fuga manages to create the correct balance of both modern and old techniques combined.

The company specializes in hand-made manufacturing of Venetian-styled glass mirrors.

Their experience is wide and encompasses a wide variety of lightning and decoration projects, such as rooms, dining rooms, ceilings kitchens, etc.

The also provide manufacturing of pieces designed by acclaimed architects and designers worldwide.

Because they have all the necessary production methods and materials within the company’s reach, such as engravings, plating and aging; they are also dedicated to the difficult art of restoration and reproduction of antique mirrors.

In the 1960’s, the company restored mirrors of the Fenice theatre, and worked in close contact with many Venetian and foreign antique dealers.

Due to their honed skills, Ongaro and Fuga are presently able to satisfy any type of request in the field of artistic mirrors.

Where to buy a Murano Glass Chandelier Online

There are many places where you can buy Murano Glass chandeliers online. We have compiled our very own list of selected vendors. Either because they have been in the market for a long time, because they are a true expert or because they offer a wide range of products. Our intention is to give you, the buyer, the power to make an informed decision.

Please note our selection is based on distributors that carry the Murano seal of authenticity, issued by Promovetro. Feel free to give us a hint if you feel we are missing someone.

Without further ado, this is our list of Murano glass chandelier sellers:

MuranoDirect: A vast selection and simple and useful selection tools based in number of lights and price. We noticed it explicitly shows they hold the Promovetro seal of authenticity. This is possible because Giuliano 😉 (the owner) is a close friend with the Murano artisans. We appreciate the fact that someone took the liberty to show his face. We also liked the product comparison feature. Prices are very competitive and the amount of styles is outstanding.

1stdibs.com: Although they only carry one type of Murano chandelier. The reputable design house has so much products too choose from, it was hard to not count them in this list. We didn’t find the Promovetro seal, but they state their chandeliers are made in Italy. Only one type of chandelier at $2,940 + shipping.

OriginalMuranoGlass.com: This company has been distributing Murano imports for some time. They do offer a wide selection of chandelier styles. From the Traditional and Venetian, to more contemporary ones. We didn’t find the Promovetro seal. Their browsing feature wasn’t very friendly, but they do have nice designs. Also, we did not immediately find the product prices.

MuranoGlassChandeliers.com: This site offers a vast number of styles, colors and prices. their selection is based on size (S/M/L) and style (traditional, contemporary, rezzonico). In general we liked the experience, although we would like a more human touch.

Venice Arte: They offer a lot but we think it was too difficult to find what we were looking for. Their prices are only in euros. And the site looks a bit outdated. Most chandeliers didn’t include a picture. Browsing was just too complicated.

Murano Glass Shop: In general this site has a vast selection of styles. We think their Virtual Designer tool has potential, but we actually didn’t tried it. They also have a nice magazine-like flipping application, but we don’t appreciate the fact that the visuals weren’t too good.

Sogni Di CristalloInterior Deluxe and Italian Lightning Center: These three sites gave us the same impression, thus we include them in one paragraph. The three sites look a bit outdated and similar. They really offer the same products. We didn’t spend too much time here.

That was it for now. We did found many more dealers but we think the certificate of authenticity is an exceptional thing that should be made explicit from the homepage.

As a final note, we only focused on first hand dealers, there are many resellers in Ebay, Houzz, and Etsy too, but we didn’t focused in those.

As you may have guessed, our verdict goes to either “Murano Glass Chandeliers” or “Murano Direct”. Surprise, right? But, we really think it’s an important exercise. You be the final judge.

Classic Chandeliers Fashion

Classic chandeliers offer a stylish and glamorous atmosphere. However, it is important to make the right choice when choosing your chandelier, especially when you want them to show an elegant effect.

MEASURE RULE OF THUMBS

Here you can find a useful guide on selecting the chandelier size and height. But the basics are simple:

“The general rule for hanging dining room chandeliers is that the bottom of the fixture should hang between 30″ and 36″ from the tabletop assuming you have an 8′ ceiling.”

“The diameter of the dining room chandelier should be about one half to two thirds the width of the table it will be hanging over.”

CLASSIC CRYSTAL CHANDELIERS

A subtle and highly desirable effect can be achieved with a classic design chandelier. The spectrum of light and colors offered by Murano glass classic chandeliers is particularly eye-catching.

Hand-made Murano chandeliers feature a variety of wavy and tubular shapes and colors, including: pinks, yellows, blues, greens, red and blacks. If you go to our store you can also browse our fantastic color featuring, for example: antique style crystal, black, black and crystal trimmings, crystal and kt. gold, crystal and black trimmings, crystal and blue and many more.

Murano Glass Classic Chandelier

Murano often comprises floral and romantic motifs, that makes them a highly desirable piece due to the magic effect produced by its shape and lighting.

Classic chandeliers can fit almost any budget, limiting only those with a poor imagination. Sizes and shapes can fit every dinning room and almost any other type of room, including kitchens, baths and bedrooms.

Since acquiring a chandelier usually requires spending more money than any traditional light forms, you may want to stick to a style that won’t go out dated as fashion trends change. Choosing a classic style chandelier is the best option for buying a chandelier. But the freedom of design and styles offered by these hand-made pieces, also makes choosing them a rewarding experience that, while may take some time. It will bring joy and glamour to your house gatherings.

While most people furnish their living or dining rooms from the bottom up, we would suggest in fact the opposite, to furnish your room from top to bottom. That is, starting from your ceiling deco and finishing with your flooring and carpeting. This top-bottom approach means you’ll spend some time with an empty living or dining room, but from what we’ve seen with some of our customers, the reward of dressing up a room, starting with a classic chandelier makes your interior design expert go ballistic about the many places your imagination will take you.

If you have decided you want to acquire a classic chandelier, take a look at our selected list of chandelier dealers and resellers. Maybe you’ll find one that suits your budget, taste and needs.
